Application For "Public Speaking/Debate" program
Boston Life offers Public Speaking classes for non-native speakers interested in improving their English language skills and developing effective speaking and presentation strategies for class, work, social life, or home life. The classes are interactive and fun, with a maximum of 4-6 students per class.

Public Speaking and Debate
4 classes (each class is 2 hours) with 4-6 students per class
This class is designed to for the intermediate level non-native speaker. Classes consist of voice and speech warm-ups and exercises to help students begin to feel comfortable expressing themselves in English in social or group settings. By the conclusion of this course, students will be able to present short impromptu, demonstration, and informative speeches, as well as engage in challenging debates and dramatic readings. This class is for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable expressing their ideas clearly in the work place, school, social settings, or at home.
The first class
After vocal warm-ups and exercises, students will present informal 2-minute impromptu speeches and engage in other speaking challenges. Comments and critiques will follow each speech. Students may also prepare to present a Speech to Demonstrate, Inform, or Entertain: students may use props, visual aids, costumes, and music.

The second and third classes
Students will present their speeches. Afterwards, the class will discuss and critique each speech and the teacher will give notes, suggestions, and tips to improve speaking.Then, the teacher will work with students on quick responses--speaking exercises to improve speed of response. Next, the class will work on Debate (with debate speaking activities) and Methods of Persuasive Speech.

The forth class
Student will select and read a poem or short children's story, using the effective speech strategies (and vocal variety) they have learned in class. Students will also present formal debates in teams. Afterwards, constructive comments and critiques will be presented. Upon the completion of the course, students will have developed knowledge of persuasive and creative speaking strategies, and will have greater ease and confidence presenting their ideas either at home, school, or work.
